Weekend Update {Girls Weekend}

Hey y'all,

My mom was in town this weekend and it was nice having her visit for more than a few hours. My parents are only about two hours away so they often come up to the Triangle for events like a show at the DPAC or the State Fair but my Mom has not spent a whole weekend with me up here since I moved up 4.5 years ago.

Friday.

After work on Friday, I went to walk my friend's dog Finn as they were out of town unexpectedly. Once Finn was all settled, I headed to my place to meet up with my Mom, unload her suitcases and head to dinner. We decided to keep things light and went to Tossed in Morrisville. This is a place dedicated to salads and wraps. I had the chefs salad, no cheese with ranch, while my Mom got the Chili Lime Shrimp Salad.
Out walking Finn

Following dinner, we headed back home to get in our PJs and watch Moana. Yep, a kids movie. I have seen a lot of kids movies in theaters with my Mom but we never got around to Moana.

After the movie it was time to go walk Finn and head to bed as we had an early Saturday planned.

Saturday.

6am alamrs on Saturdays are not fun but I went ahead and got ready, walked Finn then headed back to my place to grab my Mom. We went over to RTP for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We were doing the untimed walk which started at 9am. There were some tears shed before we even got started since breast cancer research is dear to our family as my Grandma, Clara, passed away of breast cancer when I was very young (my Mom's mom).

We finished the 5K in under and hour (our set out goal since we were just mall walking, not power walking) and explored all the tents in the race area after.

Then we headed home to get ready for the day. We went over to Neomonde for lunch where my Mom had the sides plate and I grabbed the pita pocket platter. If you ever go, get the hummus. My Mom and I shared my side of hummus and I still took some home.

After lunch, we headed to the NC State Fairgrounds to go to the Wake County Library Annual Sale. This year there didn't seem to be as many books but we both got a good number. I ended up with 8 books for $5 and my Mom got a big reusable bag for $21!

All the walking and standing on our feet meant we were ready for some down time. We went to walk Finn and ended up watching the Derby coverage. We each picked a horse but Always Dreaming ended up in the lead.

We then headed over to Carolina Cafe at Meadowmont in Chapel Hill for sandwhiches for dinner and went home to watch the Secret Life of Pets and Sing. Yep, a kids movie double feature.
Max Cat was really interested in the Secret Life of Pets Movie

I was crashing around 10pm so it was off to walk Finn and head to bed.

Sunday.

After walking Finn, on Sunday we got up a little late so we missed church. Instead we made a big breakfast and headed to the Brier Creek Regal Cinemas for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I love this theather since they have recliner seatibng and you select your seat ahead of time so you are exactly where you want to be in the theater.

After the movie, we came back to my apartment and watched a few cooking shows before it was time for my mom to head home.

Once my mom was back on the road, I went to walk Finn, watched some tv shows, headed to the grocery store and began my meal prep. This week I am doing some lazy meals but with such a busy weekend, healthy and simple was the way to go.
