It's time for more book reviews. Sorry to go MIA Monday and Tuesday but with the start of registration week and working for a college, the past few days have been crazy at work. I thought I would share a dystopian young adult book I picked up recently.

This is a world divided by blood - red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of Mare's potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.
But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance - Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart...

I felt like I could not put this book down and after reading half of it I was already looking forward to the next book Glass Sword which comes out in February. I loved the set up of the world with the divide of people coming from their blood and the power of magic. It shows what a small group with a lot of power could do to a group with none.
Also, I can't wait since Born of Betrayal came out yesterday. If you enjoy fantasy/science fiction and romance I greatly recommend the Born of series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Now to finish The White Rose before heading to Barnes and Noble to grab a copy.
And for the What the Heck book of the week: Must Love Breeches. Who comes up with these titles/cover images?
What are you currently reading? Do you enjoy dystopian young adult novels?
There seem to be a lot of dystopian YA novels these days. Wonder what that's about? And I just heard that someone's developing a Hunger Games theme park.
ReplyDeleteLove when you can't put a book down! I'll have to check this one out. I'm currently reading Someday, Someday Maybe but not really feeling it. I may give up on it soon and move on!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you worked for a college, Jess! Which school? And what do you do there? I always thought it would be so neat to work for a university!
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great book review/reco!!!
